Perfect day for two short but steep Sierra Club hikes with the Hundred Peaks Section. The first hike to Combs (6193′) began at an access to the Pacific Crest Trail off Lost Valley Road about 39 miles east of Temecula. Our group of 8 hiked 6 miles total out-and-back starting on the PCT and then an off-trail climb for about a mile.
We drove on the start of the second hike to climb San Ysidro peak (6147′). This hike started on BLM land in Ranchita. The landscape, full of boulders, is a favorite of mine. We walked past Thimble Peak, a San Diego 100 highest peak. I felt like I could have reached out and touched it. I will have to return for this one. Total hike distance to San Ysidro peak was 4 miles but the climb was steep.
